We asked our in-house Cyber Security expert what he has found during the past few months of lockdown in the security world. Here’s what Gareth had to say…
During the past two months within lockdown I have seen an alarming increase in the amount of Phishing emails that are being sent to businesses. The criminal gangs behind them are also becoming increasingly sophisticated employing social engineering techniques that target individual companies. Without the security controls in place it really is only a matter of time before a mistake happens and the criminals gain access to company and customer data.
With that said I have also seen a rise in demand for Cyber Essentials from businesses wanting to safeguard themselves. This is fantastic news and exactly the type of proactive approach which will protect you from cyber threats.
For those that don’t know, Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme to protect against the most common cyber threats. There are two levels of certification Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. With Cyber Essentials Plus there will also be a hands-on technical verification carried out.
