As cyber attacks are becoming much more frequent in the recent years, we are beginning to truly see the importance of Cyber Essentials within our business. Our Cyber Essential expert Gareth Guest is going to answer some of your frequently asked questions!
It’s certainly been a busy few weeks. We have seen more businesses contacting us to become Cyber Essentials accredited and I am finding that the demand right now for Cyber Essentials is quickly growing. It seems people are realising the benefits the accreditation can bring to their business, both in terms of security but also importantly, trust with their clients.
Clients want to know that their personal and sensitive data are protected and one of the best ways to demonstrate this is by complying with the Cyber Essentials scheme.
I am one of the Solutions 4 IT Cyber Essentials auditors. Here are some questions that I am regularly asked regarding the scheme, hope it helps!
How long will the process take?
The process is quite straight forward, you may already have some security measures in place. Once the questionnaire has been completed and sent back to us we will review which generally takes 1-2 days.
What does Cyber Essentials cover?
- Configuration settings
- Boundary firewalls
- Access Control
- Malware and virus protection
- Patch management
What process do I need to implement before I begin?
Before filling out the questionnaire, all devices within the scope should be compliant with the Cyber Essentials standard. We can advise and support you through the process if required. Simply call us for more details and costs.
Do certificates have an expiry date?
The certificate will have a 12-month expiry date at which point we will then need to rectify your business
Is insurance cover included within Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Liability Insurance is included this is dependent on business turnover, location and scope of the assessment. The questions will guide you through the eligibility for this.
