“Hey, Siri, Ask Copilot!”

Apple CarPlay and, for that matter, any other kind of CarPlay felt like revolutionary stuff when it started rolling out after 2014. Before that, you’d be at the whims having to pull over to call someone, install a GPS or use your phone to use Google Maps, and most of all, not have a choice of what music you’re listening to, unless you had a collection of CDs… Now, the new revolution seems to be happening, as Microsoft Copilot will now be able to be used THROUGH Apple CarPlay!

Requirements

First and foremost though, you’re going to have to meet a few criteria before being able to use this yourself:

  1. iOS 26.4 or later required on your iPhone
  2. The latest version of the Microsoft Copilot app needs to be installed
  3. Of course… you need an actual vehicle that has CarPlay
  4. Access to ‘Voice’ features in Copilot

Now For The Exciting Part: Feature Set

Naturally, the readers amongst you that have jobs that require you to be travelling to and from places, maybe client sites or prospective customers, this will have very tangible value for you. With Apple CarPlay support for Copilot, you can:

  • Ask standard questions that you could do with Copilot at a desk, just not at the risk of crashing your car
  • Prepare for upcoming meetings, as well as catching up on emails and messages
  • Brainstorm ideas

It’s important to mention too that while there’s not any clear visibility into future updates and developments, this feature set will likely improve/expand as time goes on.

Our Take on Copilot Apple CarPlay

Well… asides from maybe benefiting from an abbreviated or shorter name, this is an example of what we see as a good use of AI. Why? Earlier this year in April, a press release from ‘Confused.com‘ stated the following stats:

Now of course, there’s caveats, and we’re not saying that Copilot assisted CarPlay is going to magically halve these numbers, but our view is that removing the reasons a driver would want to reach for their phone while driving can’t hurt, can it?
