A recently developed iPhone hacking tool- Darksword– has been leaked onto GitHub. This is a threat to iPhone users as much as an opportunity for attackers, now they have a publicly accessible hacking tool. In this blog, we’ll cover details about the leak and Darksword itself.
Darksword is a serious exploit targeting iPhones running iOS 18.4 to 18.7.
Here’s the worrying part:
According to security firm iVerify, the code “works out of the box” — meaning hackers don’t need to be particularly skilled to start using it. Making it’s leak on GitHub a very appealing choice to opportunistic attackers.
The leak reportedly came from someone who claimed they captured the attack in real-world use and wanted to expose what they called “sloppy tradecraft.”
There is some good news.
So far, DarkSword has only been confirmed to work on older iOS versions. Apple has already responded by pushing updates and even urging users (rare move, by the way) to install them ASAP.
If your iPhone is fully up to date, you’re already protected.
Apple has also:
The catch is, just because it currently targets older versions doesn’t mean it’ll stay that way.
There are already claims from a developer that the leaked code could be adapted to hit a much wider range of iOS versions, potentially up to iOS 26.0.1. It’s unproven for now, but definitely not something to ignore.
